On October 24, 2015 I lost my horse, Oliver. He was my best friend, my soulmate, and even my therapist at times. Now, Oliver is my angel. He taught me everything about life and love, he made me laugh when I wanted to cry, and he had a way of making a bad day good. The bond we shared was undeniable. He had the most amazing heart and was truly a gentle giant. People always referred to him as my “soul horse”, and when he made his journey over the Rainbow Bridge, my life was forever changed.
After Oliver passed, I looked for several different ways to memorialize him. A friend of mine had a beautiful wooden sign made that was placed on his grave at the farm. Another friend blew up his
photo and placed one at the farm and gave me another for my house. My sister framed photographs she had taken of us when she came to visit, and my mother had a beautiful iron trivet made from one of Oliver’s shoes. Oliver’s farrier bronzed his last pair of shoes which are now hug above my bed. I was incredibly grateful for all the beautiful gifts I received after his passing, but I still felt like I
hadn’t done enough. I wanted a piece of him with me always. I felt incomplete.
After researching memorialization pieces, I came across a place called The Pet Loss Center Hampton Roads. I searched their store and found that I could actually put his “paw print” on a necklace! It was a year and ahalf since his passing and I can remember the exact day it came. His hoof print was placed on a beautiful golden pendant and strung on a delicate chain. On the back of the pendant “Grande Sol” was engraved (Oliver’s real name). The necklace shined almost as bright as he did when the sun reflected off his coat.
I wear my necklace daily, as a constant reminder that he is with me in every step of my journey.
He is the reason I am who I am. He is the reason I joined The Pet Loss Center team. He is my “why”.
Thank you, Oliver, for the amazing journey.
