We’re three days into the New Year. How are you doing on your New Year’s resolutions? So far, so good? Failed miserably? Where are you?

I’m calling this the “Year of You.” This is your year, and my year. The year we’re going to be at our best, mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally. This is our year to do this.

Let’s get healthy this year. Let’s practice self-care and get our mind around the fact that taking care of ourselves is exactly what the doctor ordered. Here’s what I what you to remember: What does the flight attendant say in the safety announcements when it comes to the oxygen mask? PUT YOUR MASK ON FIRST AND THEN HELP THOSE AROUND YOU!

Okay, you have it. There’s the first rule. We HAVE to help ourselves first, and then we can be of assistance to those around us.

Did you already spit on my talk of resolutions? Those not for you? Alright, I get it. Then let’s call them 2018 goals. What’s your goals for this year? After all, you owe it to yourself, if nothing else, to be happy and healthy.

Another goal is to be kind to yourself. Funny how I’ve already asked you if on the third day of this month you’ve blown your “resolutions.” Why can’t every day be Happy New Year? Every day we should be kind to ourselves and give ourselves a break to try again tomorrow. For me, I’m having no self-speak of fail or no fail. I’m having talk of “today wasn’t exactly what I wanted it to be and I have another chance tomorrow.” Let’s be kind to ourselves. I think we’ll find we can then be kinder to those around us.

This is the Year of You. What work are you ready to do to be peaceful and in a place you want to be? Let’s make that happen.
